Rock Oyster Farm

On the longest day of the year and a warm, sunny evening club night entailed a visit to Rock Oyster Farm. After food and refreshments members climbed aboard onto a trailer to have a tour of the Oyster nets and an informative talk on oyster production before then a tour of the indoor pools and a chance for a few members to try Oysters... Members thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the insight into a different type of food production.

Royal Cornwall Show 2018

Launceston YFC's competition success continues into the show season with Royal Cornwall Show which saw a variety of talented and colourful individual entries within the YFC tent from members under the theme of 'fairytales'. Members had spent many evenings working on their eye catching cubicle which displayed cookery, floristry, art and handicraft, as well as 3 miniature houses to showcase the fairytale 'The Three Little Pigs'. As a result of many of the individual entries being placed, the cubicle earning good marks and stock judgers Holly Yelland and Matthew Halls being placed in beef, sheep and dairy, Launceston YFC member's hard work paid off and the club won the day with the most points. Good luck to members competing at National level and the club now looks forward to Rally, upcoming summer shows and a varied Thursday night summer schedule.

Following a highly successful Competitions Day at St Ives, Launceston YFC were announced as well deserved overall winners at the county event. Both Launceston YFC's men's and ladies tug of war teams achieved 1st place and along with stock judgers Holly Yelland and Matthew Halls, went on to represent Cornwall in the South West Area round at Hartpury College. On the day, the ladies team made a valiant effort and after the deciding pull for third and fourth place against Gloucester YFC, Launceston came away with 4th place. The Launceston men dug deep, pulled hard and made it into the final against Devon YFC. After a gripping pull at both ends, Launceston achieved 2nd place. After this brilliant result Launceston YFC men's team now go on to the National finals in Worcester to represent Cornwall. A big thank you to Kevin Frain for his ongoing committed coaching of both teams.

Disco dancer's dazzle to achieve 2nd place at Blackpool for National Final

A talented group of 10 members from both Launceston YFC and Camelford YFC represented Cornwall in 'Disco Dancing' at the YFC Nationals Final held at Blackpool during the May bank holiday. The dancers had been practising since the beginning of the year with experienced guidance and choreography from Sally Grigg. The group qualified in March after being placed second after a excellent performance at Weston-Super-Mare for the South West Area round, just loosing out to dancers from Devon YFC club, Cheriton and Tedburn. For the National finals in Blackpool the Disco Dancing competition was held in the grand ballroom of the Winter Gardens, in which members faced stiff competition from 9 other clubs from counties across England and Wales. The Cornwall dancers were last to perform but brought excitement and enthusiasm to the stage, whilst having fun performing a brilliantly executed, high energy routine to a range of dance hits. After an anxious wait the judges results were announced, with second place being awarded to Cornwall YFC that was met with rapturous celebration by the dancers and supporters. First place went to the well-deserved Devon YFC.

Launceston YFC hope to continue the competition success into the upcoming summer competitions, with Tug of War training well underway and preparation for summer show entries and cubicles commencing, along with a full Thursday night club schedule. Previous, recent club nights include visits to D S Smith packaging, Kensey Foods and an amusing evening playing 'bubble football'.

Dung Run 2018

Launceston YFC members gathered in Maunder's car park with tractors and trailers for their annual dung run. In spite of the chilly temperatures, fun was had by members who wrapped up warm and delivered 650 bags to houses in Launceston and the surrounding area. A fantastic sum of just over £1000 was raised on the day, with all proceeds going to this years chosen charity, The Prince's Trust.
Thank you to all of those in the Launceston and District Community for their generous support.

Monday, 22 January 2018

Over the winter months Launceston YFC have enjoyed a fun and varied schedule. With club meetings including; late night shopping, a self-defence class, Christmas party and making willow wreath Christmas decorations. Members got into the festive spirit with carol singing at the Wilsey Down Hotel then on to the club secretary, Emily Brookham's house. Thank you to Emily's family for the wonderful company, food and drink. For some members of the club one night of carol singing was not enough!
Launceston YFC along with St Buryan YFC had the special task of hosting this years Cornwall YFC County Carol Service at Truro Cathedral. Lots of hard work went into preparing for the service with members composing their own readings poems, and 16 members forming a choir to sing De Virgin Mary and a Christmas Medley. Many evenings were spent practising with the talented Nicola Hosking and her piano, before our first dress rehearsal at Lifton Down Methodist Chapel which was a great success and filled us with confidence for the real thing in the Cathedral!
Along with the choir ensemble, in the service Holly Yelland played a beautiful rendition of 'The First Noel' on the clarinet, as part of a duet with Ed Harris playing the piano. Amy Trehane, Alex Cornish, Emily Brookham and Hannah Thomas recited readings, poems and verses. A huge thank you to Nicola for all of her help and guidance.
The Winter competition schedule has been well underway with members working hard practising the pantomime 'Madgy Figgy's Pig' directed by Oli Stephens. Friends, family, previous and current members were treated to a first performance in Launceston Town Hall for parents evening along with a run down and slide-show of the previous year. Following the brilliant support received members eagerly anticipated their county pantomime round which was held at Liskeard Town Hall and saw Launceston YFC compete against two other clubs that evening and eight acts in total. Despite members giving it their all and even featuring a milk, cream, mascarpone and Tribute producing pantomime cow unfortunately Launceston were not placed, so will not be going through to the county final. Thank you to Oli Stephens for his committed directing, Ed Humber and Dan Jasper for managing sound, Heather Stanbury for her greatly appreciated help and to all those who have shown their ongoing support.
