Christmas Party

Members of the Lanson YFC Advisory Committee, Roger Harris, Lisa Southard and Simon Burden, organised an evening packed full of fun and frolics!

After splitting members into teams, Roger, Lisa and Simon introduced some new games as well as incorporating the old classics. No Christmas party would be complete without passing an ice cube on string, nor a game of musical chairs; and energy levels were definitely boosted when it was the first team to find a...... !!

It was a fantastic evening, many thanks to our advisory members for maintaining the high standard of entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

Carol Singing

Launceston town centre came to life last Thursday when the Young Farmers were privileged to join Launceston Town Band in the singing of Christmas carols. This popular festive occasion allowed the community to be brought together and it was lovely for everyone to sing along.

Members then continued their evening of carol singing by visiting Lower Carley Farm (home of chairman, Dan Batten) where they entertained friends and family with more Christmas tunes. Will Uglow accompanied on the piano, which complimented the beautiful singing voices very well!

The final stop for Lanson YFC was at the home of club president Janet Ham, where they sang within a quiet cul-de-sac and many neighbours came along to join in. The evening rounded off with a delicious supper.

Christmas Craft wirh Cornish Willow

Launceston YFC warmly welcomed Carol Horsington, from Cornish Willow, to lead the Christmas craft evening for this week's club meeting. The members were very well lead and everyone successfully made beautiful Christmas tree decorations. The leaders explained how to select the correctly sized willow pieces and locally sourced materials were used to make these festive decorations.

Many thanks to Carol and David for a very enjoyable evening!

Pantomime

Hello all,
It's that time of year where you need to pay for your panto tickets.
'Oh no it's not!'
Oh, yes it certainly is!
It's £14 and if you could bring the correct change it'd be great.
I need all payments before Christmas.
If I've not received payment then tickets may have to go on offer to other members.
Many thanks and Merry Christmas,
Oli

Late night shopping

Members headed to Plymouth on Thursday to finish off (I expect!!) their Christmas shopping. The evening definitely got everyone into the Christmas spirit and was enjoyed by all.

Brainstrust Final

Launceston YFC’s Brainstrust Team, and many supporters, travelled to Fraddon Village Hall for the county final on December 6th. The team consisting of Charlotte Parker, Oli Stevens, Sadie Cornelious and Luke Uglow all performed well, against strong opposition, and achieved 2nd place overall. Public speaking competitions are an excellent way to become more involved with YFC, improving personal skills and confidence, and it is highly recommended to become involved. Well done to everyone who took part!

Talk by a Health Visitor

On Thursday 1st December, members of Lanson YFC were given a talk by a local Health Visitor. Alison Gray explained her role within the primary health care team which involveds assessing the health needs of individuals, families and the wider community.  She demonstrated some of the technology she uses within her career including an instrument to asses the hearing of young children. It was an interesting talk which informed everyone of the important role that these professionals have, as well as the dynamic range of services that Health Visitors provide.
