Sports Practise
With the County Sports Day looming in early September, members felt it necessary to have a practise! Tamsyn Bartlett and Martin Grigg had organised an eventful evening of netball, football, hockey and volleyball, but as the weather was not on our side, we ventured into Coads Green Hall and played benchball instead! The competitive nature of some people certainly shone through and so lets hope this continues for the real thing!

Visit to B&B Agricultural Sales Ltd
Members travelled to Doublebois to visit B and B Agricultural, who offer support and repairs for all farm machinery and equipment, and are the main franchise holders for the Valtra range of Tractors. After looking around the premises, members were set the challenge of driving a Polaris Ranger around a course, plus encouraged to get behind the wheel of their Valtra tractors and take them for a spin! In addition, members were asked to guess the horsepower of their demonstrator Valtra tractor and later on in the evening, a quiz was handed out to see who had been listening. Sofie Watton's guess was the closest to 221.2HP and Jess Brookham won the quiz.

Talk by a farm secretary
Sue Gillbard, a farm secretary who works as part as IAgSA (Institute of Agricultural Secretaries and Administrators), joined Launceston YFC at Eagle House to discuss her role as a farm secretary. Her passion for her job certainly shone through, which includes book-keeping and completing numerous Single Farm Payments forms each year for farmers. The evening was followed by a rather long business meeting!

Mad Hatter's Cocktail Ball
Members throughout the county were raving after this years Summer Ball, which was held at Ashgrove Farm, Tremaine, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs. R. Goodman. This year the ball was renamed as the 'Mad Hatter's Cocktail Ball' to make it a little bit different from previous years. Launceston YFC worked exceptionally hard in the run up to the ball, in particular our social secretaries, Jak Gubbin and Nathan Dinnis, along with chairman, Ed Humber. The Mad Hatter theme was well represented in colour and decoration, and the cocktails, which were a new venture, certainly went down a treat. The enjoyable two course roast dinner was served by Moses and Mary Andrews, along with a budding team of guides from Tregadillett. This was followed by dancing to the band 'Cut the Rug' and the hugely popular BK Disco. Many thanks to everyone involved in making this night so fantastic. In fact many people have called it the best yet!

Fun at the beach
Many members refer to our annual beach trip as being one of the best evenings of the year, and this time it was no exception! There was a large turn out last Thursday for games, swimming and a BBQ at Widemouth Bay. The more active members of the bunch enjoyed a small game of cricket, whilst the rest preferred to sit and chat. Unfortunately there were not as many people who were eager to go in the sea this year, but Oli Stephens, Tamsyn Bartlett, Martin Grigg, Steve Butter, Ed Humber, Claire Butter and even new member Aaron braved it non-the-less! The meat on the BBQ soon disappeared, leaving members full and tired.
