Race Night

The Wilsey Down Pub at Hallworthy organised a race night last Saturday, inviting Launceston YFC to organise and profit from the raffle. The evening was a very entertaining one, especially when some bets were placed unintentionally - poor Steve Butter had £7 whipped from his hand when buying a round, for a horse he had won from simply entering the room! Luckily for him, his horse came in first and so he walked away a happy man with £40!!
HUGE THANKS GO TO JANE BRENDON AND ALL AT THE WILSEY FOR THEIR KIND DONATION OF £250 TO OUR CHOSEN CHARITY, ATAXIA, ALONG WITH £70 RAFFLE MONEY.
Thank you to all who supported the night, plus Jonny Dymond (auctioneer).

Rose Bowl

The annual rose bowl is a fun speaking competition between the members of Launceston YFC. This year it was hosted by Roger Parsons (president), Mary Andrews and Janet Ham and consisted of three rounds. To begin, each member was given a Mr Men book, which they had to read, then give a book review on. Shortlisted members then had to auction the most random of objects, including an out-of-date can of beer! This didn't deter Alan Wadge from splashing his cash though! The final six then went head to head as teams of three, playing a game of 'Call my Bluff'. Congratualtions to Oli Stephens who took away the trophy and many thanks to our president and his assistants for a very entertaining evening.

Visiting Tregida Seafood Unit

The smell of fish led members to Tregida Seafood Unit at Pennygillam. With a range of locally caught fish beautifully displayed, members were informed of the full process of smoking, from selecting the fish to packaging and dispatching it (even as far as London).
It was interesting to look around the property and see the ranging gadgets and modcoms needed to prepare fish, along with the new packaging machine that provides an air tight seal. I am sure many members will be full of omega three, going by the amount of fish sold on the night!

SWA Cabaret Winners

Following months of practise as a club and weeks of work as a county, the cabaret team really wowed the crowd at the Hall for Cornwall on Sunday 13th March with their performance entitled, 'It's not an albatross'. Being the first time on stage as a team, the cast of approximately 100 members really did the county proud coming FIRST.

The next round is at Weston-Super-Mare on April 3rd (Mothers Day)! We look forward to as much support as possible, but beware, tickets are selling fast!

Annual Dung Run Prep

With prongs, dung and empty feeder bags at the ready, members spent their Thursday evening bagging dung. With the use of Timmy's brand spanking new bagger alongside the old ones, we soon filled approx 1,450 bags. A lovely spread followed, thanks to Maureen Shute and Audrey Retallick. Lets hope the aroma of dung soon fades - it's not the most desirable choice of aftershave/ perfume!

Watch out for Launceston YFC around the Launceston area tomorrow (Sunday 6th March), when we shall be selling these bags at a reasonable price of £1.50 in aid of charity.
